Purpose:

Our By-Products Operators are responsible for operating our machines to process, press, cook, dry, and bag our by-products. They are responsible for maintaining their equipment to ensure successful operation of our by-product operations, specifically our industrial cookers, dryers, grinders, and presses. Our By-Products Operators are tasked with maintaining communication between Fishmeal and our Boiler Room to ensure our cookers and dryers are receiving the correct amount of steam to properly process the by-product in our cookers and dryers. They are tasked with monitoring the process from start to finish to ensure compliance with CFIA standards and company Quality Critical Control Points. They are responsible for completing documentation detailing the daily operations and process of our by-products throughout the assigned shift. Lastly, our By-Products Operators may be tasked with day-to-day operation of a Forklift when necessary.

 

Duties:

  • Learn to run Industrial processing equipment. (cookers, Dyers, Presses, Screw Conveyors)
  • Be able to do routine maintenance to equipment. (PM’S)
  • Maintain paperwork as per C.F.I.A audits.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing of equipment.
  • Forklift Usage as per job requirement
  • Trouble shoot equipment.
  • Multitask

 

Requirements:

  • Must be physically capable of safely bending, squatting, stooping, crouching, and climbing over and around necessary equipment for processing.
    • This includes standing on cement floors for extended periods of time in between break periods in addition to standing in one spot for extended periods of time.
    • Must be comfortable working in a limited space for extended periods of time.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting upwards of 50 lbs. frequently during the assigned shift.
  • Must be capable of completing necessary documentation of daily processing.
    • Documents are mainly handwritten, so writing must be legible.
      • This will require a handwriting sample.
  • Must be able to work independently and assume responsibility for processed products.
  • Must be able to work the scheduled, assigned times and required overtime for the position; 8 hours minimum upwards to 12 hours maximum depending on requirements.
      • This may include a variety of day shifts and 2nd shifts.
  • Must be reliable, honest, alert and safety conscience with a proven record of good attendance.
  • Prior experience working with machine equipment is preferred.
  • Must have a Grade 10 Education (or equivalent).
  • Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Capacities:

This position can be physically demanding with a combination of standing, walking, bending, crouching, squatting, and stooping on cement floors in addition to climbing/maneuvering over and around processing equipment on cement floors for extended periods of time. Lifting upwards of 50 lbs. frequently during the assigned shift can be expected. Levels of excessive noise can be expected during periods of high production. Periods of humidity/heat can be expected during hotter months. Levels of excessive smell can be expected as the product is processed.
