Title: Human Resources Generalist – Food Manufacturing Plant

Location: Cape May, NJ

We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team at a fast-paced food manufacturing plant. As the Human Resources Generalist, you will be responsible for providing HR support and guidance to all employees, promoting a positive work environment, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. Your role will encompass various HR functions, including recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and HR policy implementation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR practices and within a union food manufacturing industry.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Onboarding:

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and update job descriptions.
  • Source, screen, and interview candidates.
  • Ensure pre-employment procedures are followed.
  • Conduct new employee orientations in conjunction with Safety to ensure smooth onboarding processes.

Employee Relations:

  • Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution.
  • Promote positive employee relations and foster a culture of open communication and teamwork.
  • Investigate and address employee complaints, union grievances, and disciplinary issues.
  • Work with Safety to conduct quarterly round tables with team members.
  • Work with safety to conduct accident investigations.
  • Coach management and supervisors with progressive discipline.
  • Member of the employee engagement committee.

Performance Management:

  • Administer performance appraisal processes and provide guidance to managers and supervisors.
  • Work with the General Manager & Department Managers to implement performance improvement plans as necessary.
  • Assist in identifying training and development needs to enhance employee performance. Training and Development:
  • Coordinate and deliver training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
  • Assist in the development of training materials and programs tailored to the manufacturing environment.
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives.

HR Policy Implementation:

  • Maintain HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations.
  • Communicate and enforce company policies to foster a fair and respectful work environment.
  • Keep up to date with changes in labor laws and industry best practices to ensure compliance.

HR Data Management and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate employee records, including personnel files and HR database.
  • Generate HR reports and analytics to monitor key HR metrics and trends (turnover, staffing levels.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of employee data in compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Run weekly payroll for union employees, and biweekly for salary employees.
  • Weekly Union due reports for two unions.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of relevant HR work experience.
  • Previous experience in a union environment preferred.
  • Proven experience as an HR Generalist, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of NJ labor laws, regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Experience with recruitment and onboarding processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Solid problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and other HR-related software.
  • Demonstrated discretion and ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
