Position Summary:
The Director of Safety and Sustainability is a dynamic and hands-on leader responsible for driving a proactive culture of safety, environmental health, and sustainability across our manufacturing operations in the U.S. and Canada. This role is not about managing from behind a desk—it’s about being on the floor, actively engaging with team members, and leading change through education, influence, and accountability. The ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for employee well-being, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship, with a track record of building strong safety cultures and delivering measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership
· Develop and implement safety programs, policies, and procedures that foster a zero-incident mindset.
· Serve as the key driver of safety initiatives—modeling safe behaviors, coaching frontline leaders, and ensuring accountability at all levels.
· Partner with site leadership to conduct regular audits, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
· Track and analyze safety metrics and trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
· Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, Work Safe New Brunswick and other applicable regulatory bodies in the U.S. and Canada.
Environmental Health & Compliance
· Lead environmental programs and compliance efforts related to air, water, waste, and chemical management.
· Maintain all required permits and documentation, and ensure timely reporting to regulatory agencies.
· Serve as the subject matter expert for environmental regulations in both U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions.
· Collaborate with plant teams to minimize environmental risks and reduce the environmental footprint of operations.
Sustainability Strategy
· Design and implement sustainability initiatives aligned with corporate goals, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation.
· Drive continuous improvement projects focused on long-term environmental impact and cost savings.
· Partner with procurement, engineering, and operations to evaluate sustainable materials and practices.
· Promote a culture of environmental responsibility through employee education and engagement programs.
People & Culture
· Serve as a visible leader and coach to safety, environmental, and plant leadership teams.
· Conduct training and development initiatives that empower employees at all levels to own safety and sustainability.
· Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, and collaboration.
· Lead by example—being a consistent presence on the floor and in the plants, listening, teaching, and inspiring others.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s preferred.
· 10+ years of progressive experience in safety and/or environmental health in a manufacturing environment.
· Multi-site leadership experience strongly preferred.
· Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Canadian environmental and health regulations.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead change and influence across all levels of the organization.
· Demonstrated success in building a safety culture and delivering sustainability initiatives with measurable results.
· Ability to travel regularly to Cape May, Santa Fe Springs, and Blacks Harbour.
What We Offer:
· The opportunity to shape the future of safety and sustainability at a company that values people and the planet.
· A collaborative, mission-driven environment where your voice matters.
· Competitive compensation, benefits, and professional development opportunities.
